Workshop: Popcorn Science!
If you’ve got popcorn, you’ve got a party! You’ve also got some amazing science and opportunities to make tasty treats. That’s exactly what we’ll be up to in this workshop, which happens to take place on National Popcorn Day. Let’s celebrate it right!
Students will try their hands at stove-top popping and learn the trick to making delicious kettle corn. They’ll visit our seasoning stations to create their own variety pack of take-home munchies. And don’t forget the drizzles! Each student will also make Zebra Stripe Chocolate Popcorn—a treat so tasty it should be called Disappearing Popcorn!
Of course, we’ll also share the background information that curious students crave. What makes popcorn pop? How is the kernel transformed? Is it possible to have popcorn without hulls? Which is better—stovetop or microwave popcorn? What’s the best way to make seasonings stick? What are the two main shapes of popped corn, and what are their best uses? Where did popcorn originate?
We’re delighted to offer the Mom & Me option for younger students. These activities are a little too challenging for children under 10, but they’re perfect for a team project with a parent. (Dads are welcome, too.) If you enroll a student aged 6 to 9, we’ll know to make some extra space at the creation stations.
Location: Bogart Community Center, 141 E Thompson St, Bogart, GA
